Asmita
Definition: The sense of individuality or 'I-am-ness'; subtle egoism that underlies all afflictions.
Insights: Asmita is the false identification of pure consciousness (Purusha) with the mind (Buddhi), creating a sense of individuality—“I am.” This mistaken sense of self is a root klesa and must be dissolved to realize one’s true nature as pure awareness.
